Who, and why? -

The Greens on Campus believe that we offer an accessible and friendly alternative to other political groups on campus. Our values line up closely with the Greens party, but we're not dogmatic. Our aim is to be as inclusive as possible, encouraging debate and discussion of all ideas. On campus political involvement is at the moment restricted to working with other groups on actions associated with relevant political issues. While we stand candidates for SRC elections, we think it's essential to be involved in activism at the grassroots.

The Sydney University Greens on Campus formed in late 2003 after discussion by a group of friends that there was a hole in representation for students politically at Sydney University. We felt that if left-wing students were to become politically educated and active, they would either have to remain non-affiliated, join one of the Labor groups on campus or join a socialist group. We decided that there were problems with any of these courses of action that could be solved by the creation of a Greens party affiliated group.

Remaining non-affiliated is challenging, though possible. The largest problem is that it can take up a lot of your time if you are interested in several issues. There exist on campus a number of collectives that are issue specific, like the Environment Collective, Education Action Group, Global Solidarity Collective, Women's Collective, Queer Action Collective and the Anti-Racism Collective. We work with them among others to cover a wide range of issues which makes it easier for you to get involved in the whole political picture. By getting involved in Greens on Campus, you can keep your finger on the pulse of every collective, while participating in those that particularly interest you. Members of the Greens on Campus are involved in every one of the SRC collectives at Sydney Uni, and we can help you get involved too.

This website exists for the purpose of informing and creating discussion. We'd love it if people posted information and articles that are tied in with discussions and actions that are occuring at the moment. People should also feel free to use their account to comment or debate information that is posted so that this can become an active and informative board. No other political groups at Sydney University operate active websites. We hope that this site can become an online hub for information and discussion about political issues for students.
